It’s not easy to describe an experience like Film + Music Conference. How do you take all of the details from a landmark event and distill them into something that is even mildly readable? The fact of the matter is you can’t. So we’ll go ahead and say it: “you had to be there.” Avoid facing those five terrible words again and get your passes for 2018 Film + Music Conference right here. First, we’d like to thank the 400+ people who joined us in September for our first-ever conference. Without our community, an event like Film + Music Conference would have been impossible. Attendees included filmmakers, creatives, and musicians from across the United States and beyond, each bringing their unique tastes and background to Fort Worth. It was the driving force behind every moment and for that, we thank you.
As for our speakers, they knocked it out of the park. Brad Montague kicked things off with a talk that was pure inspiration, followed great presentations from Reinaldo Green, Ryan Booth and Pulse Films, Mindcastle, Neighborhood Film Company, and Andy Baker. Topics ranged from diversity in film to branded content and so much in between. We wrapped up things with a keynote from Radiolab’s Jad Abumrad — who, unsurprisingly, blew everyone’s minds. It’s what he does best.
We switched up the game with our breakout sessions, which included a lighting workshop with Natalie Kingston, directing actors with Adrienne Weiss, and a panel with Variable on adapting to change in our industry. By dividing attendees into smaller groups, they had a chance to explore the arts district and connect with their peers in a more intimate setting.
Throughout the weekend we also included live concerts from Musicbed artists — and they killed it. A big thanks to The Rival, Sharon Irving, Chad Lawson, Drew Holcomb, and Penny & Sparrow. We wrapped up the conference with a killer afterparty at Musicbed HQ, along with free food, drinks, and an exclusive show from Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors.
